Here is a Metal Picture button featuring a bird on a rail. It also has a pretty floral border around it. It measures 3 1/2 cm and has a japanned back with metal loop shank.
COCONUT SHELL BUTTONS
Here are two more new Coconut Shell buttons that are new to my collection. The designs are modern, one being multi coloured stripes and the other orange shapes on a black background. I find the modern Coconut Shell buttons fascinating in design and just a bit different.
COCONUT SHELL BUTTONS
These are two new Coconut Shell buttons which I bought in Benalla recently while on an outing. They have a geometric design lazer cut on them and have been dyed making the design stand out. They measure 3 cm in diameter.
CURIOUS BUTTON
This button is a bit of a quandry as I am not sure of it’s substance. It suggests British Butterscotch Bakelite to me because of the small holes in the back ( maybe air bubbles) It has a scalloped tiered design which has been painted black with a gold layer on top. It shows a terracotta colour where the gold is worn. I am left wondering!
PORCELAIN BUTTONS
These Porcelain buttons are Arita buttons from Japan. They are realistics and were probably made in the 1950’s – 60’s for the Western World. I got them on a yellow waistcoat in a secondhand shop in Melbourne several years ago and was thrilled to find them.
CZECH GLASS BUTTONS
At 1 cm in diameter these two Czech glass button are quite pretty. They are in a rose like form and are an iridescent blue. They have a self shank and are also new to my collection.

This Czech glass button is multi coloured with green, blue, purple and pink in a floral design. It is embellished with a gold lustre making it very striking. It measures 2 1/2 cm and has a metal loop shank.

Here are two modern Czech glass buttons both with iridescent colours and gold lustre. The backs are coated with silver, one with a four way metal box shank and the other with a metal loop shank. They measure 2 1/2 cm in diameter and are new to my collection.
MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS
Here is a group of small Mother of Pearl buttons which I have sewn onto a doyley and framed. They are just the common type with a larger carved button in the centre but they make quite a nice display.
AUSTRALIA DAY
Today is Australia Day and what a nice way to celebrate it. With my friend Terry we drove over to Euroa and had some lunch at the Bakery. We then drove along the creek which was fairly dry then out the Merton Road. We turned onto a dirt road and drove for a few kilometres viewing the boulders amongst the gum trees. Once again it was very dry which is typical of Summer scenes in this part of Australia. I took a few photos, two of which are shown above. We came home in time for a nice hot cup of tea and to get the washing off the line!! We had a pleasant time together and that is what it is all about.
