Here is a group of small Mother of Pearl buttons which I have sewn onto a doyley and framed. They are just the common type with a larger carved button in the centre but they make quite a nice display.
MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS
AUSTRALIA DAY
Today is Australia Day and what a nice way to celebrate it. With my friend Terry we drove over to Euroa and had some lunch at the Bakery. We then drove along the creek which was fairly dry then out the Merton Road. We turned onto a dirt road and drove for a few kilometres viewing the boulders amongst the gum trees. Once again it was very dry which is typical of Summer scenes in this part of Australia. I took a few photos, two of which are shown above. We came home in time for a nice hot cup of tea and to get the washing off the line!! We had a pleasant time together and that is what it is all about.
BUTTON GROUP DAY
Our little group of Button Collectors got together yesterday afternoon for the first time in the new year. As usual we had a most enjoyable time together sharing and talking about our buttons. Our topic chosen was Czechoslovakian glass buttons and between us we had some really lovely ones. A sample of them are shown above. We finished off the afternoon with a cup of tea and “goodies” to eat. What a pleasant way to spend a few hours together.
CELLULOID BUTTONS
Let’s get back to buttons! These are Celluloid Wafer buttons in a decorative wooden frame. They are of earthy colours (which is typical of this type of button) some with a pressed design and others carved. They make quite a nice display.
PIN CUSHION
This pincushion I have created to imitate a cotton reel. I wound the thread around the wooden mould and put a padded top on it. Some braid and a button make it complete.
PATCHWORK QUILT
This Patchwork quilt is made of pastel shaded fabrics which I have tea dyed. It is effective and has a nice triangular folded border which sets it off nicely. I made it many years ago.
GLASS PIN TRAY
This is another painting/stitchery which is set in the base of this glass pin tray. I have painted an old English cottage which is rather quaint. The stitching adds texture to the picture. I did it many years ago, maybe in the 1980’s.
GLASS PAPERWEIGHT
I have painted flowers onto fabric and then stitched it in a single strand of embroidery thread to create a little picture. I inserted it into the back of the clear glass paperweight before putting on a backing. The glass magnifies the stitchery.
BROOCH CUSHION
I have enjoyed doing crazy patchwork over the years and this cushion is just a small example. It combines fabric, lace, braid, stitchery, beads and buttons and is just done at random to achieve a nice effect. A black cord finishes it off. It is 16 cm square.
FELTED PURSE
I love colour and have used lots of orange, red, purple and blue to create this felted purse. I have added beads. buttons and stitchery to embellish it. It was just a bit of fun and something different to try. Talking of things different how about we look at a few things other than buttons for a while. As the saying goes “A change is as good as a holiday.”
