This is a nicely shaped and carved Mother of Pearl buckle. It would suit a plain or floral fabric. Of course you would want some Mother of Pearl buttons to compliment the buckle. The buttons and buckle can make or break the outfit.
I think that these buttons may be Acrylic but I do not know anything about the various plastics. They are very effective with the contrasting black and plum colour. They measure 2 1/2 cm.
This brass button has cut steels around the border. The centrepiece features the head of a man in a helmet. It is quite a showy button. You can see where the cut steels are riveted in on the back view. It is probably from the late 1890’s.
I have just been storing my 2018 Opp Shop finds in a tin ready to make room for 2019. I like to look regularly in our local shops for any that are a bit different. They are all part of Fashion history for years to come. Many are various plastics of which I know nothing about but just the same thought it would be nice to share some. They are so different from buttons of the previous centuries and probably mass produced. The buttons of the 1800’s and early 1900’s have a certain charm. These are just so different but pleasing in their own way. I hope you enjoy some of them.
This is really an unusual button with an odd shape. The combination of black and cream is quite striking. It is rather large at 5 1/2cm X 2 1/2 cm. I think it could be Acrylic.
Here are three modern plastic buttons, all with a metal eyelet trim. They were among my 2018 Opp Shop finds.
I have just embroidered this button this week; a good project while watching T.V. as there isn’t much worth watching these days. It has a real handmade look about it but that is ok. It is large measuring nearly 5 1/2 cm.
At 4cm this button is quite large. It has a decorative border including 12 cut steels. A lady on a horse makes up the central design.
Here is a little nook in my Button room. It is my “blue” corner with buckles, pin cushion, tins and books etc; just typical of my house of little treasures ( or ” organized clutter ” as one of my friends calls it.)
Here is a crocheted ” Hat Shape ” needlecase in a bright orange colour. The “Crown” of the hat holds a thimble which is rather natty. I have also shown some plastic thimbles of a similar era.
