BLACK GLASS BUTTONS

Here are two black glass buttons with some gold lustre.  Once more I acquired them in a container of buttons that the opp shop lady gave me. The back is quite different but it doesn’t show up too well in the photo.

BAKELITE AND METAL BUTTON

This Bakelite button has some carving in various patterns.  The metal escutcheon is a type of Fleur de lys shape with an intricate filigree fill in.  It measures 4 cm.

COMPUTERS !!!!!

My computer has just overnight changed it’s system of doing a post and now I do not know how to do one!!!!!    I love it when it does things like that !!  I will now have to play until I can work it out so things will be a bit quiet for a while.  I am not a computer whizz so it may take a while as I have nobody to help.  Patience is a virtue!!

PRESSED PLASTIC BUTTONS

These three buttons were in a container of buttons I acquired recently. They are a nice teal blue and measure approx. 3  1/2cm.  I like the colours and designs of the 1930’s plastic buttons.

CELLULOID BACKS

Here are two Celluloid Back buttons using  a fawn coloured Celluloid.  One has a decorative metal border and the other a delicate floral design in metal.  They are both very effective.

MY SKETCH BOOK

How about another little diversion from buttons?   As previously mentioned I enjoy painting and sketching and here is some of the art from one of my sketchbooks.  They are mainly a combination of pencils and/or water colours.  It is a very relaxing hobby for me which I share with my friend Di.

BUTTONFEST IN MELBOURNE

Yesterday I was lucky enough to go to The Victorian Button Collector’s Club Exhibition and Sales day in Melbourne.   It is the day of the year where I have saved up my money to have a big splurge on the many buttons available from 50cents to maybe $150 each so all are catered for.  It is like a child being in a lolly shop.  My friends Carole and Ross drove me down and after about  five hours spent at the show my nephew and niece picked me up so I could stay down for a few days.  The Melbourne ladies make me most welcome and I can sit and chat to them while resting my back.  It was a perfect day both weatherwise and the running of the show.  I was thrilled to have drawn out a winning raffle ticket for a little girl who was so excited to win a pretty frame with children’s buttons displayed in it.  It made my day to see her so happy.  I got a nice variety of buttons and will look forward to photographing them and sharing them when I get home.  ( I forgot to bring my camera cord with me!!! )  I have just been to my nieces place for a lovely barbeque lunch and I am now going to “play”  with my new buttons because I was too tired to do so yesterday.  Button Collecting is a great hobby for young and old.

BUTTONS FROM ENGLAND

My friend Margaret has been on holidays in England for three months.  She has been on the search for buttons in opp shops for me.

What a lovely surprise for me to find a 1kg parcel on my doorstep and yes it was buttons plus a couple of extras.  I had great fun going through them choosing what to keep and Margaret will use the others on her sewing projects.

OLD BUTTON

This is a nice button comprising a cream background with a fancy brass overlay.  I am not sure if the cream is Celluloid or Painted Tin. (It has a really high gloss surface)

It has a tin back and shank and measures a little under 3 cm.  It was given to me recently.
