Here we have six black glass buttons with a silver lustre. They always look showy I think.
The second three appear to be 1930’s period to me.
BLACK GLASS WITH SILVER LUSTRE BUTTONS
CERAMIC BUTTONS
No. 1 is a pale speckled blue button with a flower design.
No. 2 has a rather crude look combining a dull green and gold.
No. 3 has a high gloss and an abstract blue pattern.
No. 4 combines black and taupe in a wavy pattern.
The first one has a self shank while the other three are sew through. Note that No. 2 has three holes which is a little different.
IRIDESCENT BLACK GLASS
These three buttons are all quite decorative in design and have a real sparkle with their iridescent lustre.
They are a nice size being 2 1/2cm. The third one has a metal four way box shank and the other two have self shanks so are not quite so old.
BLACK GLASS WITH GOLD LUSTRE BUTTONS
Here we have four black glass buttons with gold lustre. They are all a sort of Art Deco design and have a metal four way box shank. They are also all approx. 2 1/2 cm in diameter. They do not photograph easily I find.
BAKELITE AND METALIZED PLASTIC BUTTONS
I think these two buttons are from the 1930’s and are made from Bakelite with a metalized plastic rose in the centre.
The rose was a popular design, some buttons made being purely the rose itself.
CERAMIC BUTTONS
These three buttons are colourful and just a little different.
One is a matte red with a cream gloss scrolly pattern. One is oval shaped and a lovely lime greenish colour and the last one is a mixture of irridescent black and gold. They each have a beauty of their own.
GLASS BUTTONS
Since my post of 10th January, 2018, I have been able to get a lot more Grant Featherston glass buttons.
I have just lined a box with green velvet to display them in. The coloured ones seem to be harder to find. I am pleased with my collection but there is always the hope of finding another button.
CELLULOID BUTTONS
Here are two lots of Celluloid buttons which I have put on reproduction cards.
They are similar in design but in different colour schemes. The green ones are just over 2 1/2cm and the brown ones just over 1 1/2cm. My friend Di got them in Athens, Greece while there in 2016.
PLASTER BUTTONS
Here is an interesting group of five buttons each with a different design. They are all rather chunky being made from plaster and have a nice high golden glaze which makes them look special.
NEW BUTTON
This is a large button measuring 5 cm and is rather striking with the black lace embedded in the middle. The plastic is clear allowing the black to show through nicely. I wonder what sort of garment you would use it on?
