GAY NINETIES BUTTON

This Gay Nineties button shows a central purple glass stone surrounded by a decorative gold border in a sort of Art Nouveau style. The outside border is a rope like design. It has a japanned back with metal loop shank and measures 4 1/2 cm so is quite large. It is typical of many of the Gay Nineties buttons.

METAL PICTURE BUTTON

This brass button has been tinted red. It has a nice moulded picture of a young girl within a circle. A swirly leaflike design sits below and makes a rather nice button. It measures a little over 3 cm.

BAKELITE BUTTON

This black bakelite button is an octogen shape and is very chunky which is quite common. It is a good background for the brass moulded leaf which has good detail. This button has a quality look about it. I think black always looks smart.

GAY NINETIES BUTTON

Here is a Gay Nineties button which is a bit different from the normal. It has an open work brass design with a large oval mottled green stone in the middle. It is a nice colour which stands out well against the brass.

PLASTIC BUTTON

Here is a pearly cream plastic button with a white glass centre. The glass has a leaf design in gold lustre. It is just a bit different. It measures a little under 3 1/2 cm.

FABRIC BUTTON

This button does not photograph well which is a pity. It has a brocade type fabric in brown and black which is set in a decorative brass rim and is quite nice. It measures 2 1/2 cm.

GLASS BUTTON

Here is a glass button made in Czechoslovakia in 2009. It is a combination of a rich purple and silver also with some gold lustre. I think it is a reproduction of a design from the early 1900s. It shows up nicely in reality in a good light but not so in the photograph.

METAL BUTTON

This realistic metal flower button comes from Thailand and was bought there by my friend Lek. It is gilded in gold but the photo does not show it off at it’s best.

PLASTIC BUTTON

This plastic button in black and blue/grey is quite striking I feel. It features a flower design in the centre and is a sew through type button. It measures 4 cm so is quite large.

CERAMIC BUTTONS

Here is a trio of modern ceramic buttons in earthy tones and geometric design. I think the simple design and colours are very pleasing. They have a natural handmade look about them.
