Buttonsplus

This grey plastic button has a metalized plastic centre in a flower like design. It has a tin shank. Maybe it is from the late 1940s or early 1950s. That is my guess anyway. I have a lot of plastic buttons with metal centres of varying types and they are quite interesting.

Here is a pair of carved bone buttons. They are carved in a flowerlike design and have been tinted in brown which shows up more on the edge and the back. I guess it has been rubbed back on the front. They measure 2 cm. They may have been made in Nepal.

This button is of a lovely bright blue plastic. It is quite domed and has a pressed brass disc in the centre featuring a floral design. I think it may be from the late 1940s and it would be a nice addition to a suitable garment.

This Celluloid button in brown and cream is large at 4 cm. The brown side has a basketweave pattern. It is a single sheet of Celluloid with no backing and has a self shank. I think it would not be very serviceable.

Here is a group of colourful Ceramic buttons. Two have a floral design while the other two are geometric. I do not know where they are from but they certainly have a handmade look about them.

This card of twelve Celluloid buttons was bought in Athens, Greece in 2016 by my friend Di. They are dark green with a diamond shape in iridescent colours across the middle. They are quite showy.

Here is a handpainted and lacquered wooden button made in Russia in 1994. It is signed on the back MOAYAHOB. It shows a large brown bear walking in the forest and is very bright and colourful. It is more of a collector’s item than a functional button I think.

This Studio button is of lampwork glass and was made by Teresa Rarig from USA. She has signed it in gold paint at the top. It is very colourful and looks much better in reality. I do not know the age of it. It has a metal loop shank and measures 3 cm.

I guess this button is catagorized as a Gay Nineties button. It is of white metal and has several coloured stones embedded in it. The border is quite a delicate design. It is backmarked GESETZLICH GESCHUTZT which in German translates as protected or in our language patented. It measures 4 cm so is a nice size.

Here are two sets of Disney buttons made in Taiwan and China for Dress it Up, a Jesse James Company. They were packaged in USA. They are plastic and depict Mickey and Minnie Mouse in three different stances. They are rather cute and just a bit of fun. I bought them in 2016.
