NEW BUTTONS

Here are a group of buttons bought new at a market in Bangkok, Thailand in 2014. I was on holidays with my nephew and family. Apart from the two little ones they all have a diamante trim. I guess they may have been made in Thailand. The black and white makes a nice display.

FABRIC BUTTONS

This is an interesting group of fabric buttons which I think come from India. They are very ornate with their gold and silver stitching and beads on a black velvet ground. To me they have a regal look about them.

GLASS BUTTON

This is a white glass paperweight button. It has been decorated with a modern style butterfly and flower in lovely bright colours. A metal loop shank has been embedded into the back. It measures over 2 cm.

METAL BUTTON

This metal button is realistic showing an insect on a leaf. The detail is fine and effective. I don’t think I would like to wear it on a garment but it is interesting anyway.

MOTHER OF PEARL BUTTONS

This pair of Mother of Pearl buttons are set in brass. They have a brass loop shank. I think they would have been men’s waistcoat buttons. I was given them by a friend.

MODERN BUTTONS

Here are two novelty buttons from 2013. One is a crouching rabbit and the other a hippopotamus. They are just a bit of fun and would probably have been used on children’s clothing. They are pewter like.

METAL BUTTONS

These two embossed brass buttons are ball shaped with a loop shank. They have been painted in two shades of blue. I do not know their age but believe that they are fairly old.

CELLULOID BUTTONS

These two celluloid buttons are in a mustard colour with orange and black in a geometric pattern. They have a japanned back which is common in this type of button. They are new to my collection and were given to me by a friend.

ENAMEL BUTTONS

Here are two modern enamelled white metal buttons both in a floral design. One is a brilliant blue with white blossom. The other is more colourful with a white rose on a red background. The blue one is slightly larger. They were made in Japan.

METAL BUTTON

This is a modern realistic flower button. It is of metal which has been gilded. It was bought in Bangkok for me by my friend Lek. It is of good quality.
