These two buttons are both made of pierced brass and I guess would be from the 1920’s – 30’s..
Both have patterns picked out with coloured paints, one being sort of geometric, the other a floral theme. They are both 27mm with a loop shank. I think they are rather nice.
This white glass button is a nice size at a little over 3 cm.
It has a triangular look as three sides have been angled down to the outer edge. Black paint has been added to the simple etched design which really looks great. It has a self shank.
The third photo with the UV light shining on it makes the button glow green which indicates the uranium content in the glass.
This button is white metal with a filigree centre. Eight round black stones are set around the outside. It measures just under 3 cm.
Yesterday was a lovely day so with two friends I went to the Historical Day in a little place called Merrigum. What a great job they do for a tiny community.
They had butter making, ironing with a flat iron, an old wringer, a blacksmith, shearing, old cars, lace making and wood turning, just to name a few. It was just nice wandering around saying “I remember”.
My friend Joyce had a button display and she always gets lots of interest. Lots of old engines and machinery were on display too.

Here are two entirely different enamelled brass buttons.
One is large at 3 1/2cm with a sort of geometric design incorporating cream and blue enamel. The other is multi coloured with a floral design. It makes me think that it was a “practice button” as the colours and border design to me are a bit of a “hotch potch” (the computer doesn’t like that word!) when you look closely. (No rhyme nor reason) It measures 3 cm.
Here is a dark brown bakelite button with a very decorative metal escutcheon and a white stone set in the middle.
It is a large button at 4 1/4 cm. It would look nice on some sort of winter’s coat.
Here is a pair of painted Porcelain Studs.
They have aqua flowers on a yellow background and are edged in gold. They measure 2 1/2 cm x 2 cm so are quite large.
This is a typical Art Nouveau style white metal button.
To me the design is really beautiful with flowing flowers and berries. They fill in the space just right. It has open work which makes the flowers really stand out and is a little under 2 1/2cm with a loop shank.
Here is a nice little set of four silver filigree buttons. They are just under 1 1/2cm so quite small.
The box has the initials C.E.U. in gold on the lid so I guess that they were a gift. It was a popular thing to do in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s especially for a 21st birthday gift.
This boxed set of buttons was given to me by a man in our village after his wife had passed away. He thought they would have a good home and Mary would be happy. Well, they do have a good home and I am happy to have them.
The blue enamelling is very catchy with the white border. They are silver backed.
