Duttons for Buttons is a button shop in York, England.
A few of my friends have been to this shop and bought buttons for me. (Aren’t I lucky) The four buttons on this card are all black glass with a gold lustre. My friend Jan bought them in September, 2017 at Duttons. She also took some photos of the shop for me which was nice.
It is always exciting when someone gives me a button. The saying goes “Small things amuse small minds” (No comment)
I think this group of seven Celluloid Back buttons are lovely.
In each case the Celluloid is of a fawny/cream colour. The designs are many and varied all being very effective. The smallest one is 2 cm and the largest three are 3 cm. I love them all and they look great together in the little display box made by my brother.
I bought this button new in 2009. It is gold plated and features a witch on her broomstick flying across the moon. It is a good quality button and just a bit of fun.
As can be seen these buttons on their card are of Paua Shell from New Zealand.
They are typical of this type of button. What lovely blues and greens shine in them.
PAUL POIRET : 1879 – 1944 (France)
Passementerie literally means “turning by the hand” coming from an early French word.
This term is used for many buttons made from threads of colours as well as silver and gold and/or with braid, beads or fabric. These buttons were made in French Ateliers for Paul Poiret who was a very creative Fashion Designer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I find them very intriguing and having been a needleworker can appreciate the workmanship.

I think these two yacht buttons are really striking and are probably 1930’s or 40’s.
The colour combinations are a little odd but very effective. The fine white lines are a great addition to the design and I think they would look no where near as good without them.
Two of these buttons were made by me. One has flowers embroidered on to the fabric and one has a lady bird done in cross stitch. It was just a bit of fun making them.
The third button is also cross stitch depicting a duck. I bought it in a local opp shop a few years ago.
My friend Di bought this button for me recently.
It is moulded white metal picturing a lady with a girl at a sewing machine. It is a nice button to give to someone who has been a sewing person for many years like me. It measures 2 1/2 cm x 2 cm.
How about some more wooden buttons today but this time old ones. ( I don’t know how old ) What quaint little buttons these are.
They were a nice surprise for me in amongst a little bag of black fabric buttons which I bought just recently. I do not know anything about them but they are cheery and bright.
These are laser cut and surface coloured polyester buttons.
They were made in Brazil for JHB International in about 1998. One represents Betty Boop and the other a Flapper from the 1920’s. Ref: Big Book of Buttons, Page 142
