Here are two hand painted Satsuma porcelain buttons featuring Geisha Girls. They are similar but in different colour schemes and make a nice pair. I have quite a nice selection of Satsuma buttons and I especially like those with figures on them which seem to be harder to find.

These brass buttons all feature a head one having a border of cut steels. None of them are very large, not exceeding 1 1/2 cm. I do like buttons with heads on them and have a few of different materials.

Here are two groups of clear coloured glass buttons in green and yellow. I think they may be what is called Depression glass. The colours are crisp and bright so they look good in the light. They are fairly common but look nice in a group.

Here is a colourful group of coconut shell buttons which are modern. Some are painted with abstract designs and some have cold enamel applied giving them a really glossy look. They are various sizes and all sew through type.

I do like the chunky carved bakelite buttons and here are three black ones. A lot were made in blacks and browns which were popular colours of the time. I guess they would have been overcoat buttons. They have a quality look about them.

Here is a group of clear perspex buttons each with a metal disc in the centre. They are all decorative apart from the plain one in the middle. One even has a horse and rider on it.

Here are two painted wooden craft embellishments designed for Theodora Cleave as the buttons of the previous post were done. Once again they are very delicate in design. They measure 4 cm so are a nice size. Barbara Smith the designer is very artistic and has a good eye.

I bought these wooden craft buttons at a local patchwork shop in 2011. I loved their natural handmade look. I guess they are cut by laser as they are very fine and painted in a pleasing way. They are Theodora Cleave designs by the founder Barbara Smith. She was a woodcutter’s daughter and her grandmother was Theodora Cleave. I do not know where she is from. They are quality buttons with a very good look about them and would make a nice addition to a quilt or embroidery project.

Here we have some plain mother of pearl buttons, some on their original cards. Also shown are two buckles suitable for dress belts. These buttons would suit any garment with white in the colour scheme. Although very plain they still have a good look about them.

I like this button. It looks like silver but has no hallmarks so is perhaps just a white metal. The cameo is rather nice with a lady in the 1930s style. It is claw set and I am not sure what it is made of but think maybe glass; it is cold. It measures 3 cm x 2 1/2 cm so is quite a nice size. I wish I was more knowledgeable about buttons.
