GLASS BUTTONS

Orange and blue are complimentary colours and work well on these glass buttons.

Orange buttons are not so common so it is nice to have them.  They are 1  1/2 cm in diameter and have a self shank.   I guess it is not such a popular colour but I quite like it.  These buttons would certainly jazz up an outfit.

GLASS BUTTONS

This group are “Cat’s Eye” buttons.

They are white and green glass ball shaped buttons with a brass loop shank and slip pins for attaching.  They are from the early 1900’s and were mainly used on waistcoats.

HANDMADE GLASS BEADS

I have mentioned before how I love glass and glass making.

At the Bendigo Pottery there is a resident lady glass maker and she makes lovely beads.  I have bought some of them as I can’t help myself!!   The colours and patterns take my eye.  Here are some.

GLASS PAPERWEIGHT BUTTON

Glass makers can create such great items.

Paperweight buttons are a fine example.  This one is a beautiful bright blue with a small bouquet of flowers.  It has a metal loop shank inserted into the back.  As the name suggests these buttons replicate a glass paperweight.

GLASS BUTTONS

GRANT  FEATHERSTON :  1946 – 1995

From  around 1946 – 1954, Grant Featherston from Australia designed buttons.

They were made from clear glass which was sometimes painted on the back so the colour could show through.  They had a silver or gold lustre incorporated in their design.

The backplates & shank was glued onto the back.  Originally this was not engraved but were later marked DARIAN  G.F.D.  The G.F.D. denoted Grant Featherston Designs.  The buttons are rather chunky and are quite stylish as you can see.   I have shown the painted backs as well as the backmark.

GREEN GLASS BUTTONS

Green is a favourite colour of mine and here is a nice group of green glass buttons.

I have shown two of the group in detail.

There are so many shades of green as also seen in nature.  I think that is why I like it so much.

WHITE GLASS BUTTON

Here we have a white glass button with a cameo type lady’s head.

The background has been painted purple and the hair a tan colour.  It is a rather sweet little button measuring about 18 x 15 mm. and has a self shank.

GLASS BUTTON

Here we have a pretty green glass button which has been enamelled with a white background on each side and then some tiny pink flowers have been added.  It has been sliced on three sides giving the triangular look which adds more interest.
