Both of these buttons have a floral theme. One is moulded leaves and berries with open work. The other is in Art Nouveau style with flowing lines and flowers in brass.
METAL BUTTONS
Here are two different metal buttons. One is painted black and has a lovely decorative border with gold. The other smaller one is of white metal with an embossed floral border and a brass centre.
CINNIBAR BUTTON
Here is a Cinnibar button which is many layers of lacquer set into a tin back. It has been carved deeply into a floral design which is a very common subject matter in this type of button. Red is also the most common colour. It is the only button of this type that I have in my collection.
COLOURED GLASS BUTTONS
Here are some coloured glass buttons, two being Chinese lanterns. The others have dotted spirals painted on them which are quite fun. It is nice to see the paintwork in good order.
CERAMIC BUTTONS
Here is a set of small hand painted ceramic buttons depicting various fruits. You can see they are hand done as the cherries for example are not 100% identical. That gives them a special charm. They are nice and colourful too.
METAL BUTTONS
Kate Greenaway was a popular writer and illustrator of children’s books in England in the early 1900s. She drew lots of little girls in bonnets and frilly dresses. Many buttons were made using her illustrations. These are two such buttons. One is of brass and the other of white metal which has been tinted purple.
WOODEN BUTTON
This is a handpainted Russian wooden button in vibrant colours and a very high gloss finish. It shows a big brown bear walking in the forest. It is signed MOAYAHOB and dated 1994. It measures a little over 3 1/2cm.
BLACK GLASS BUTTONS
Here is a group of black glass buttons of various ages. Quite a few of them have silver lustre decoration. Some have metal shanks and others are self shanks. They make a rather nice group.
ENAMEL BUTTON
This enamelled brass button is a little different colour and design wise. The open work border is dark blue. It has a white background with a spray of tiny mauve flowers resembling lilac which is quite dainty. It measures 2 1/2 cm.
VEGETABLE IVORY BUTTON
I think this is a Vegetable Ivory button and it has a raised metal design of berries on a stem. It is nicely made and has a small brass plate and loop shank on the back. It measures 2 1/2 cm.
