Here is a white metal button with a dark tinted background. It has a brass escutcheon in the middle which has been trimmed with several cut steels of various sizes. It is quite decorative.

Here is a metal button with a wooden background which is a little different. It has an Art Nouveau style design in metal on top. It has a japanned back with metal loop shank and measures 3 1/2 cm.

Here is an enamelled brass button which has a white background and delicate pink flowers. It has a gold Rococo border which sets it off nicely.

This metal picture button is called Charter Oak Tree. It features buildings including a windmill which have been divided by the tree. The background is painted with the buildings in fine detail in white metal. The tree and border are in brass. It has a japanned back and metal loop shank and measures 3 1/2 cm.

These paste buttons are modern having been bought in China in 2013. They are varied with one having pearls also. The very large one measures 5 cm and the two square ones measure 1 cm so there is a great variety in sizes. They are part of a button collection which I bought a few years ago.

Here are three modern mother of pearl buttons which have been blackened and then etched back in their design. Two show a bird on a twig and the other has leaves. They are quite dramatic. I show the back of the button in the second picture where you can see the natural shell.

These two groups of buttons are all the same design but in different colours. Some of them have a pearlised coating giving them a different appearance. They are a realistic shape of a daisy and have self shanks.

This is a group of five silver buttons designed by Sonia Collard of Australia. She did them over 5 years and had them made in Bali. Four have a stone set into them and one has a pearl. She has used her imagination. They have the special box to display them in. What a thrill to design your own button.

Here are three novelty buttons all being chooks. They are just a bit of fun. One is painted wood, one is laser cut wood and the last one is a ceramic. They are all sew through type.

Here are a couple of original tubes of Astor buttons which I think may be Australian. They are pressed plastic buttons circa 1930s. I like these buttons because of their subtle colours and the simple designs pressed into them. They would look good on a floral cotton dress with complimentary colours in it.
